Right on the waterfront in the pretty coastal town of Bermagui lies Gulaga Wholefoods. While a wholefoods shop might not be the first place you’d think to go for a good coffee, Gulaga offers a top notch coffee experience.
Beans from Bermagui’s own Happy Brewing Coffee were a good omen and my oat lattes from this shop were very enjoyable. The flavour was rich and chocolately, consistent and pleasant in aftertaste. There was no hint of bitterness that’s so common in places who sell but don’t specialise in coffee.
The setting is pretty special too – a few indoor and outdoor seats offer up tantalizing views across the water to Gulaga, the mountain from which the shop derives its name. The vibe was very relaxed and friendly, most customers seemed to be regulars. I became a regular, but only for two days while in town!
Gulaga Wholefoods is a great spot for a top quality coffee and they served the best coffee I tried in Bermagui. If you happen to be staying at the caravan park, it also happens to be your closest coffee option.
The only downside was their short opening hours for coffee service, wrapping up at midday (although the wholefoods shop stays open later), so get in early!
